We left Audlem on 1st of June to wend our merry way To Newcastle on Tyne to spend our holiday,
Our first official stop was at Barnard Castle – which as you know Dominic Cummings caused a furore when in Covid he did go.
The town itself is lovely with pavements very wide We went to the Castle and had a peep inside.
We arrived at the Hotel, Malmaison was it's name It was right by the Millennium Bridge, a structure very fine,
Then we all unpacked and went in to dine.
The next day we went to a museum called Beamish
Down the coal mine but not for the squeamish
We looked at farms, shops and homes of long ago It made us so nostalgic as we went through
And all you could hear was 'I remember this, do you?'
Wednesday was our free day, so into the City we sped
Some went to the castle and climbed the steps to the keep
Some went to the Cathedral for a prayer or two to say
Then ate some cake in the tea room, then went on their way
Some decided to go shopping to Fenwicks a store of renown
Then toddled over to M & S at the other end of town
Our welfare officer called young Joe Off to hospital he would go
He tripped on the pavement and fell Banged his head, that is all he would tell
Our next visit was to see the 'Angel' the wonder of the North
You can see it from way off, but we got up close
When standing there beside it,it made you feel so small
Standing on a hill it really is so tall
Onto the village of Washington to see the 'Old Hall'
The home of George Washington after all
A picturesque village as pretty as can be
Where we all stopped for a cup of tea.
Our next port of call was Whitely Bay
This is a seaside town by the way
We walked the Prom as the sun shone, when we spied
Our President and his lady paddling in the tide
Our last day was spent at Cragside by name
The worlds first 'smart home' by fame
Lived in by the Armstrong's, a Victorian family
Who used water powered electricity for all to see
Our final day is over, all the thanks have been said
Feeling very tired we all scurried off to bed.
'Home tomorrow' JB
