Probus Walk at Betley
Past President Roland Hall writes:
Bob Godwin lead a splendid walk around the country lanes and fields of Betley.
Despite a poor forecast the weather was fine and in addition to the walk we enjoyed the tales of retired farmer Peter Bourne.
This ranged from how to tell when the wheat is ready to harvest the old fashioned way and without a moisture meter, identifying the breeds of 15 or so Shire Horses, and sampling the cobs from a field of Maize (it tasted very nice, quite sweet).
He also recalled how he was interviewed on Television when the BSE problems were at their height -not his finest moment as he terminated the interview by putting his hand over the camera lens!.
The morning was completed with good food ,drink and chat at the Crown pub at Wrinehill
