TOM HASSALL LAYS PROBUS WREATH ON REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

Like most other events in 2020, the laying of the Probus wreath on Remembrance Sunday was different this year. Due to government restrictions the planned church service was cancelled and organisations were invited to lay their wreaths at the war memorial at their convenience.

The Probus wreath was once again laid by Tom Hassall, with his usual dignity, respect and reverence. Tom was accompanied by his entire family, David Hughes, the immediate Past President, John Evans, the current Probus President and his wife Jan.

Being the proud old soldier that he is, Tom stood stiffly to attention and saluted after laying the wreath. He then recited the famous lines from the Laurence Binyon poem :

For the Fallen

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We shall remember them."

The final line was repeated by all present.

Our Probus club owes an enormous debt of gratitude to Tom Hassall for the excellence with which he carries out this solemn duty.

John Evans,

President
